ABOUT US

Stage It Up Youth Theater Group started in April 2018 as an after-school community program within the free libraries of Philadelphia, PA. With only a handful of children performing one original play in front of their friends and family members. Since then, we have grown to have an official summer theater camp program. What makes us special and unique is that all plays performed are the director's original work and those who participated in the program. Our motto is to teach youth the importance of performing well on stage and in life, which means we incorporate life skills through drama, and these skills are transferable to everyday life. We will accomplish this by providing a positive, creative,, and safe environment for the youth to openly express themselves while watching their words come alive on stage.

Through this program, Stage It Up Drama seeks to develop participants' artistic, self-esteem, positive social interaction, life skills, and coping skills to deal with life stressors. Stage It Up program incorporates multiple skills such as voice projection, improvisation, character development, team building, acting techniques, creative writing, and show production. These skills enable participants to understand and love the dramatic arts while teaching showmanship, memorization, and originality. Participants aged 8- 17 will have the opportunity to participate in live performances, meet new people, learn from professionals, develop audition techniques, and,, most of all, have fun.

Besides live performances, participating youth can perform what they learn in front of their families and peers. All participants must follow a code of conduct and receive permission from their parents or guardians to participate.

About

My Name Is Ms. Shekhina, (Ms. K.)

As a drama director, I have been passionate about storytelling and performance arts for as long as I can remember. When I create a platform for today's youth and see them perform on stage, I feel fulfilled to see our original work come alive. Fully immersed in the characters portrayed and the story we are telling. Acting allows me and the participants to explore different perspectives and emotions, challenging them in new ways and expanding my horizons as a person and artist.

"it's a place where children can get together and work as a team. it also has a sense of a family cohesiveness where children can be themselves. Mrs.K does an excellent job with the kids! They have fun and learn about the theater! It's what's missing with these children in the community! This program is excellent!! my son is happy here"

Iasiah; Parent Review

"My kids have been blessed by being connected to Ms. K for some years now. It’s no telling how far they will go with being equipped & nurtured in the direction in the performing arts. I must say that performing is one thing but helping to raise my boys by being a Godly role model and setting a good example is another. Ms.K. has given me & my wife security in helpIng my boys by showing standards and preparing them for what’s to come in the future & in life"
